As Chair of the ECOWAS Commission, President Bio visited the Jubilee House’s Ceremonial Gardens on August 8 to lay a wreath in honor of the victims and sign a book of condolence.

In a heartfelt Facebook post immediately after the crash, President Bio expressed deep sorrow and extended his sympathies to President Mahama, the government, and the people of Ghana.

He described the incident as a profound national tragedy and assured Ghanaians of Sierra Leone’s solidarity during this period of mourning.
The helicopter crash occurred on August 6, 2025, in the Ashanti Region, claiming the lives of prominent officials, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Minister for Environment Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, along with five others.
Ghana has declared a three-day national mourning period, with a vigil and memorial event scheduled to honor the victims.
Samples of the remains have been sent to South Africa for DNA analysis to facilitate identification for a dignified burial.
