President John Dramani Mahama (Left ) & Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia (Right)

Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia paid a condolence visit to President John Dramani Mahama at his private residence on August 9, 2025, following the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent individuals.

Dr. Bawumia and NPP officials visited the family of the late Defence Minister, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, to offer their sympathies.

The helicopter crash, which occurred on August 6, 2025, in Adansi Akrofuom, resulted in the deaths of eight key figures:

  • Government Officials:
    • Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence
    • Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology, and Innovation
    • Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
  • Politicians:
    • Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
    • Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate
  • Military Personnel:
    • Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
    • Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu
    • Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah

An evening of reflections and a memorial service was held on August 9, 2025, at the Forecourt of the State House. Burial arrangements have been announced for the two Muslim victims, with Janazah prayers scheduled for August 10, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the Forecourt of the State House, followed by interment at the Military Cemetery.

A state funeral for the remaining victims will take place on August 15, 2025, at the Black Star Square
