Former Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has appealed to members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to embody a spirit of decorum as they prepare for the upcoming presidential primary scheduled for January 2026.

During an event on Wednesday, August 13, where over 490 youth organizers, including substantive and deputy youth leaders from constituencies nationwide, presented his nomination forms, Dr. Bawumia encouraged aspirants and their supporters to prioritize constructive dialogue over insults throughout the campaign.

“I envision this flagbearership election as one characterized by respect and integrity. This is not a time for negative campaigning; rather, we should focus on sharing innovative ideas that truly resonate with the people of Ghana.

“What solutions do we propose? What value are we bringing to the table? How can we effectively address the challenges that Ghanaians face? As a united party, I invite all aspirants and our supporters to concentrate on promoting our individual candidates positively,” he remarked.

Dr. Bawumia also emphasized the importance of maintaining a united front, noting that divisive tactics could undermine the party’s cohesion and provide fodder for political opponents.

“When we resort to disparaging others, we inadvertently weaken our own party. Our messages can be easily appropriated by our rivals and used against us.

“I wish to assure you that I will refrain from insulting any of my fellow aspirants. Once this election concludes, we will need to come together for the general election.

If we allow divisions to emerge now, it will be challenging to unite later. Therefore, let us embark on this journey with a commitment to unity, and conclude it with the same spirit, as this will be vital for securing victory in 2028.”
